FOREIGN RELATIONS DEPARTMENT
Foreign Relations Department has been established as an affiliated unit to the Office of the General Director in 1981. It has become a department in 1982. Department Regulation has now reached its current form after being prepared on June 26, 2006 so as to restructure the department to conduct more effective foreign relations. The Regulation has revised in accordance with the Article 16 on 'Turkish National Police Foreign Relations Department, Establishment, Duty and Working Regulation’ of the Law no. 3201 on Police Organization.
Foreign Relations Department is composed of 6 Divisions which constitute European Union Division, Service Development Division, Division of International Secondment, Protocol Division, International Police Cooperation Division, and International Organizations Division.
International activities of PKK have been prevented on the legal basis thanks to the bilateral and multilateral agreements and protocols signed by foreign police organizations and relevant international organizations. Besides extradition proceedings for the leaders of organized crime groups have been concluded.
In the harmonization process of Turkey to the EU and under the light of the provisions of Progress Reports, coordination and monitoring activities have been conducted between the units of the Turkish National Police and between the Turkish National Police and other institutions and organizations in the fields of particularly ‘Political Criteria', Justice, Freedom and Security’ and ‘Integration with Acquis Communitaire’, ‘EU Projects’ and ‘Cooperation with EU Institutions and Organizations’.
In order to adapt themselves to developing and changing conditions of combating crime and criminality, to observe successful practices of correlate countries on-site, to develop visions of the personnel, and to improve the fighting techniques by discussing; Members of TNP attend meetings, visits and seminars on security, terrorism, transnational organized crime, narcotics, smuggling, and criminalist matters held abroad and share their experiences with related units through Foreign Relations Department.
It performs protocol and escort services for visitor foreign delegations and foreign countries’ representatives.
In order to prevent violent attacks against our Representative Offices Abroad, it seconds safeguards at 115 different offices.
In order to secure world peace and reunite with domestic peace, our Organization is represented successfully in International Police Task Forces established within UN, OSCE and EU.
On behalf of TNP, it coordinates with United Nations (UN), European Council (Working Groups on Combating Crime, Children and Women Abuse, Corruption, Drugs, Terrorism), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), INTERPOL, Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI-Bucharest), Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and other institutions (80).
The mission of Foreign Relations Department is establishing and continuing effective and high-reputed relationships in accordance with foreign policy and performing necessary works for achieving universal standards in institutional capacity.
