The first general assembly of EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association) was held on March 27, 2011 in Hannover, Germany.

International Relations Department of TNP participated in the first general assembly of EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association) on March 27, 2011 in Hannover, Germany. The representatives of various police and court interpreters-translators associations from various European countries underlined that the police and state courts must cooperate with accredited official organisations and associations, and that such organisations and associations should  get themselves registered by EULITA; otherwise it might cause waste of time and money and even cost the lives of the suspects. Because there was emphasis on the branching and professionalisation of police and court interpreters in the European Commission’s Directive on the Right to Interpretation and Translation in Criminal Proceedings and it was necessary the Member Countries transpose it to their legislations in three years’ time, it was stressed that the formation of legal interpreters and translators must be given weight by the support of EULITA and renowned European Universities. It was also stated in the meeting that EULITA’s website would be developed further and thus the flow of information among the members and between the members and the executive committee would be made effectual.
