KICK OFF EVENT OF THE INTERIOR MINISTRY PROJECT “INTEGRATED BORDER MANAGEMENT PHASE 2”

Opening ceremony of the “Integrated Border Management Phase - 2” Project which has been prepared by the Ministry of Interior to support the process for Turkey’s accession to the EU took place on Tuesday, January 1, 2011 at 10.00 in Mavi Salon, Dikmen Building of the Turkish National Police. Minister of Interior Mr. Beşir ATALAY and Minister of Interior of Finland Ms.Anne HOLMLUND attended to the ceremony.
“Integrated Border Management Phase - 2” Twinning Project will be implemented throughout 15 months under the responsibility of the Turkish Ministry of Interior in cooperation with Finland. The Office of the Chief of Staff ( Land Forces Command ), Ministry of Health Borders and Coasts Health General Directorate, Gendarmerie General Command, Turkish National Police and Coast Guard Command are the beneficiaries of the Project.
Aim of the Project is to enhance and support administrative, institutional and technical capacity of Turkey in its process to harmonize with Border Management Policies of the EU.
Development of tailor made Risk Management Models suitable to Turkey’s specific conditions for the Turkish National Police, Borders and Harbours Health General Directorate and for the Border Police, which will be established, are planned as a result of the Project. The budget of the twinning component, which commenced its activities on 29th of November 2010, is 1.400.000 Euros. The overall budget of the project is total 28.800.000 Euros including purchase of goods which will be made for the Land Forces Command, Gendarmerie General Command, Turkish National Police and for the Borders and Harbours Health General Directorate as part of the second and third components.
27 activities comprising of training programmes, visits to border areas, seminars, workshops and study visits will take place under the three sub- components of the Twinning Project.
