General View of Turkish National Police (TNP)
The duty for ensuring public security and public order is being carried out by the Turkish National Police, General Command of the Gendarmerie and the Turkish Coast Guard, under the direct supervision of the Interior Ministry.
The police render services to nearly 50 million people in Turkey that has a population of more than 70 million people. This figure equals %70 of the population. The General Command of the Gendarmerie carries out police services in rural areas, where the population is not very dense.
The Turkish National Police Organization renders services under the title of General Directorate of Security, which is attached to the Interior Ministry. The central organization is the Directorate General of Security located in Ankara, the capital and the Provincial Directorate of Security in 81 other cities throughout the country.

Apart from the big cities, local branch offices and police centers work in provincial centers within the police units rendering services under the public administration heads (governors of provinces or district governors) and, depending on the population density, directorates of district security or district security authorities and police centers render services to the public.
